LJUBLJANA, 24. March 2016 – Dr. Zijad Bećirović and Bakhatyar Aljaf, directors of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES), hosted dr. Zoran Stančič, Head of European Commission Representation to Slovenia.
The directors presented the activities of the Institute in the regions of the Balkans and Middle East, with particular emphasis on the security of the EU and the refugee/migrant crisis. IFIMES has strengthened its activities in the field of security and finding solutions for the growing refugee/migrant crisis in the Middle East and Balkans.
Head of Representation dr. Stančič presented the 10 main priorities of the EU, as identified by the European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker in the beginning of his term.
The interlocutors agreed that the provision of security and resolution of the refugee/migrant crisis is crucial for the EU, and has to be achieved in a way that will take into account the high standards of human rights respected and enforced by the EU.
The directors congratulated dr. Stančič for his appointment as the Head of the European Commission Representation to Slovenia, and expressed condolences for the terrorist attacks this Tuesday in Brussels.
