RESOLUTION ON SREBRENICA

The Krog Institute (Zavod Krog) and the IFIMES International Institute invite You kindly to take part at the round table entitled

“RESOLUTION ON SREBRENICA”,

which will be held on Thursday, 28 May 2009 at 18.00 h in the auditorium of Center Evropa at Dalmatinova 4 in Ljubljana.

At its first plenary session this year in Strasbourg which took place on 15 January 2009 the European Parliament (EP) adopted the Resolution on Srebrenica with which EP calls EU Member States as well as the West Balkan countries to mark 11 July as the day of mourning for the victims of genocide in Srebrenica. The draft resolution, which was approved by all EP political groups, especially stresses the need to remember and pay appropriate respect to all the victims of war crimes committed during the recent Balkan wars.

  1. The proposal for the Resolution on Srebrenica was handed over to the political group of Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in Brussels by the "Mothers of Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa Association". The document was formally received by EP Vice-President Diana Wallis who had previously attended the commemoration ceremony in Potočari together with the Slovenian MEP Jelko Kacin. Mr. Jelko Kacin (LDS/ALDE) has prepared a demanding project for reconciliation, harmonised it with other political groups and realised it successfully within the European Parliament in co-operation with the Mothers Association and the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
