Dr. Ernest Petrič becomes member of IFIMES Advisory Board

Ljubljana, December 19, 2013 – The International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) has adopted the decision to appoint Dr. Ernest Petrič as member of IFIMES Advisory Board. Dr. Petrič has a doctorate in law and is an experienced diplomat. During his rich career he has been the ambassador to India, the US and Austria and a permanent representative/ambassador to the UN and numerous other international organisations such as OSCE and ODC. He also presided over the Council of Governors of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency).

He is a member of ILC (International Law Commission) of the UN, whose membership comprises only 34 distinguished international legal experts from all over the world, representing different legal systems. He served as President of the Commission from 2008 to 2009.

Throughout his career he has dealt with important issues of international law. He has published several books in the field of international law, numerous articles in domestic and foreign professional journals and he still occasionally lectures. He commenced duties as judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia in April 2008 and was its President from November 2010 until November 2013.

Dr. Petrič has won the IFIMES lifetime achievement award which was presented to him last year by the Honorary President of the IFIMES Institute and former President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić.

The IFIMES International Institute is highly honoured with Dr. Petrič' membership in its Advisory Board. With his rich experience in the field of international law Dr. Petrič will enrich the work of the Institute and contribute to its better international recognition.
