(Mis)trust between the EU and USA-NSA

In the framework of the "Slovenia and the EU" lecture cycle

the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES)

invites You kindly to the round table entitled

(MIS)TRUST BETWEEN THE EU AND THE USA – NSA

which will be held on Thursday, 7 November 2013 at 17.30 h,

in the “Grad” hall of Hotel Lev (13th floor) at Vošnjakova 1, Ljubljana.

The scandal involving the NSA (National Security Agency) spying on EU citizens and leaders such as the German Chancellor Angela Merkel has put the US-EU alliance under a test. The delegation of the European Parliament's (EP) Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) has visited Washington recently. Slovenian MEP Jelko Kacin was also a member of that delegation. The main topic of the talks was the wiretapping affair involving the US intelligence agency and the question of how to restore the undermined trust between the two countries.

Those and other issues will be discussed at the round table by the following experts:

Jelko Kacin (ALDE/LDS), MEP, Vice-Chair of EP Delegation for relations with South-East Europe and EP Rapporteur for Serbia

Dr. Iztok Podbregar, professor at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security of the University of Maribor and former director of the Slovene Intelligence and Security Agency (SOVA)

The round table will be held in the Slovenian language and moderated by Mr. Zijad Bećirović.
