PRESS RELEASE

IFIMES Director at International Business Conference in Banja Luka

LJUBLJANA, 15 December 2016 – Director of the International Institute for Middle-East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES) Dr. Zijad Bećirović attended the business conference entitled “Where and how to go on in business in 2017 – European connections as opportunities for business, military industry as the trigger of development, investments as the condition for progress” which was organised in Banja Luka by European Management Association and Euromanager.

The conference discussed the possibilities for development through investments and military industry. Bosnia and Herzegovina recently received the questionnaire for EU membership from the European Commission, which represents additional stimulus for development of this country and the whole West Balkan region. Special attention was devoted to strengthening economic relations in the West Balkan Region.

In his speech IFIMES Director Bećirović stressed that all the actors have to work together to make a strong step forward and warned that most of the states formed in the territory of former Yugoslavia are able to finance themselves independently for not more than nine to ten months, having to cover the rest with loans, international assistance schemes etc.

In his presentation Dr. Vlado Dimovski, head of IFIMES Department for economy and business studies, talked about the influence of politics on economic relations between the countries in the region and about positive trends that can be noted in the field of regional cooperation.

In the margins of the conference IFIMES representatives attended several meetings with the representatives from industry and politics.
