THE IFIMES DELEGATION VISITED IRAQ

The delegation of the International Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies (IFIMES), composed of the directors Bakhtyar Aljaf and Zijad Bećirović as well as the member of the Council of the Institute Victor Jackovich, the US Ambassador returned from its visit to Iraq.

The delegation met in Baghdad on Thursday, 06 November 2008 the first Vice President of the Republic of Irak Adil Abd Al-Mahdi, accompanied by the Minister of Interior Jawad Bolani and mayor of Baghdad Saber N. Al-Essawy. The delegation was welcomed at the Baghdad International Airport by Khalid Al-Shami, general director of Iraqi government, who accompanied the delegation throughout the visit.

During the meeting they discussed the current situation in Iraq, with special emphasis on possibilities of its improvement. The participants have pointed out the necessity of dealing firstly with most urgent topics like high unemployment and the encouragment of direct foreign investments.

The IFIMES delegation also held meetings with a number of distinguished intelectuals from various parts of the Iraq society.

The International Institute IFIMES will intensify its current activities regarding Iraq.
