Former President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia
Prof. dr. Ernest Petrič will speak about the role of the UN International Law Commission (ILC), which held a regular session in Geneva in May. His lecture will try to answer the question about the role of international law as an instrument of foreign policy and its role in international relations. Our guest will also talk about some concrete examples of Slovenian foreign policy and international policy in the Western Balkans region.
The lecturer is former president of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia. He is also a member and former president of International Law Commission (ILC) and professor of international law and international relations at the European Faculty of Law in Nova Gorica and Faculty of Government and European Studies in Kranj.
He served as ambassador in India, USA, the UN, Austria, OSCE, UNIDO, ODC, CTBT and President of the Board of Governors of IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). He was also State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. His book entitled “Foreign Policy: Basic Theory and Practice” represents a valuable contribution to the field of foreign policy and international law studies in Slovenia.
The lecture will be delivered in the Slovene and will be followed by a discussion with the guest lecturer which will be moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Zijad Bećirović and Bakhatyar Aljaf.
